Purpose of Exhibition

A model of human brain and a large monitor with three buttons show the basic mechanism and functions of the human brain.
These were planned and created by National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Odaiba, Tokyo. The Nagoya City Science Museum received these models from Miraikan.

[Learn about the Overall Function of the Brain]
You probably know that the different parts of a brain have different functions. This exhibit consists of a large monitor and a model of a human brain with a transparent right side. On the monitor, you can view three programs—one each for "visual sense", "auditory sense" and "the somatic senses". There are buttons with a picture of an eye, ear and the entire body. Press a button to hear an explanation of a respective sense. It explains where information is initially received in the brain and where the information is analyzed and processed, and introduces the sense of smell and taste. What areas of the brain do they correspond to?
There are 13 buttons for the model. Push a button to see corresponding area in the brain light up. Some areas are shown in a different color.
Take a closer look the areas of the brain introduced on the programs.
